The Updated LRFC Player Pathway
THE UPDATED LRFC PATHWAY

Building the Future of Soccer in Robeson County
At Lumber River Football Club (LRFC), our mission is simple:
create a clear pathway for players in our community to grow, compete, and reach their highest potential in the game of soccer.
For many families, youth soccer can feel confusing. There are recreation leagues, travel teams, state leagues, and national programs. Parents often ask:
“Where does my child start?”
“What comes next?”
“How far can they go?”
The LRFC Player Pathway was designed to answer those questions.
Our structure creates a step-by-step development model, allowing players to start locally and progress toward higher levels of competition if they choose.
The Foundation: Recreation Soccer
Every journey starts somewhere.
For LRFC, that beginning is our Recreation Program.
Recreation soccer focuses on:
Learning the fundamentals of the game
Building confidence with the ball
Developing teamwork and sportsmanship
Creating a fun and positive first experience in soccer
This program is open to all players regardless of experience or ability.
At this stage, the goal isn’t competition — it’s falling in love with the game.
Through our partnerships with local recreation departments such as Lumberton Parks & Recreation, LRFC helps organize leagues, provide equipment, recruit referees, and ensure every child has access to quality soccer opportunities.
The Next Step: NCYSA Classic (Travel Soccer)
For players who want to train more and compete at a higher level, the next step in the pathway is NCYSA Classic Soccer.
Classic soccer introduces players to:
Higher training expectations
Competitive league matches
Regional travel
Tactical development
Advanced technical training
LRFC Classic teams compete in the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA) league system against clubs from across the state.
At this level, players begin learning the habits that define serious athletes:
Commitment to training
Discipline
Team responsibility
Competitive mentality
For many players, this is where the real player development journey begins.
Advanced Opportunities: ODP & NPL
As players continue developing, some may be ready for advanced identification and development programs.
LRFC actively encourages and supports players who pursue opportunities such as:
Olympic Development Program (ODP)
ODP identifies top players across the state and provides opportunities to compete against elite talent regionally and nationally.
Players selected into ODP can progress through:
State Teams
Regional Teams
National Training Pools
ODP has historically been one of the pathways that leads to U.S. Youth National Team exposure.
National Premier League (NPL)
NPL provides an additional competitive platform for clubs and players seeking higher-level competition and exposure.
Programs like ODP and NPL allow LRFC players to test themselves against some of the best talent in the region and country.
Regional & National Platforms
At the top levels of youth soccer competition are leagues such as:
ECNL Regional League
ECNL National Platforms
Conference and Playoff Events
These leagues represent some of the highest levels of youth competition in the United States.
While LRFC currently focuses on building strong local and regional programs, our long-term vision is to create opportunities for players to access these platforms through partnerships, exposure events, and continued club growth.
Our Long-Term Vision for LRFC
The LRFC pathway isn’t just about today — it’s about building something sustainable for the future of soccer in our region.
Our long-term goals include:
Expanding Player Development Opportunities
We aim to provide more training, coaching education, and competitive opportunities for players at every level.
Supporting Player Identification Programs LRFC will continue promoting programs like ODP evaluations and advanced development opportunities to help our players reach the next level.
Strengthening Local Soccer Infrastructure
Through investments in equipment, facilities, referees, and coaching development, we are working to raise the overall standard of soccer in Robeson County.
Growing the Club
As participation increases, LRFC will continue expanding programs and opportunities so that players can stay within the club throughout their entire youth career.
A Pathway for Every Player
Not every player will follow the same path — and that’s okay.
Some players will enjoy recreation soccer and play for fun.
Others will pursue travel competition.
A few may reach state, regional, or national opportunities. Our job as a club is to provide the structure that makes all of those journeys possible. At LRFC, we believe that great soccer communities start locally. And every great soccer journey starts with one simple step: Recreation Soccer.
Game Starts Here
The LRFC Player Pathway represents our commitment to building a true soccer development system for our community. Whether a player dreams of playing in high school, college, or beyond, the pathway begins right here in Robeson County.
And it all starts with LRFC.
